Hwayong Shin
Weidenbaum Center Postdoctoral Fellow in Survey Research

Hwayong Shin studies the conditions under which knowledge-generating institutions in democracy—the media, government, and science—earn, lose, and recover public trust, and how they shape citizens’ political attitudes in polarized environments and amid evolving technologies, from social media to artificial intelligence (AI).
She received her B.A. and M.A. from Seoul National University and her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan. Before joining Washington University in St. Louis, she was a postdoctoral associate at Dartmouth College’s Rockefeller Center for Public Policy. At WashU, she will be working with Weidenbaum Center Director of Survey Research Taylor Carlson.
